Prepare Your Tools
You will need:
- A beard comb with fine teeth
- Sharp moustache scissors (or a precision trimmer)
- A mirror and plenty of light
Tip: Do not smile or pucker your lips while trimming. Keep your face completely still (neutral expression) so you can see how the moustache naturally sits over the lip.
Grooming steps
-
Comb downward
- Comb the moustache thoroughly straight down over the upper lip. You will see which hairs are too long and reach into the mouth.
-
Trim along the lip line
- With scissors (or a trimmer without a guard), carefully trim along the upper lip line.
- Work from the center toward the corners. The goal is to keep the upper lip visible and stop hairs from crossing into it.
-
Balance the volume
- If the moustache looks too bushy, comb it upward and lightly shorten hairs that stick out past the comb teeth. That visually lightens the moustache.
- Check symmetry on both sides when you finish.
