We bring you a series of interviews with our colleagues. In these interviews, we will ask them various questions to introduce them to you in more detail.

Now, let’s dive into the interview with the barber who goes by the name “Zlatej”

What Is Your Relationship with Your Family?

Let’s say my relationship with my family is unconventional. My father was, as I like to say, “on vacation,” and my mother abandoned me when I was fifteen. It was a tough life, but it made me appreciate every true friend even more—because those real ones are my family.

What Does Being a Barber Mean to You?

The job itself fulfills me. It’s more than just a profession; it’s a lifestyle. The best feeling is when clients leave excited, take photos, and can’t believe their own eyes. That’s the main reason I do this—the joy it brings. Stress kicks in when I’m running behind schedule, and if I’m more than ten minutes late, it’s a real mess. Anyone who comes to me knows exactly what I mean.

Do You Have a Role Model?

A role model… I don’t really get why I should aspire to be like someone else or take inspiration from them. I don’t compare myself to anyone. I have my own unique style, which has found its audience, and I am my own role model.

You Have Quite a Dark Past, Don’t You?

That’s a tricky question, and I don’t really like talking about it… But most of my clients already know my story, so here’s the short version. My grandmother, whom I considered more of a mother than my actual mom, passed away from cancer. My mother decided to start a new family, and together with my aunt, they sold the apartment. I haven’t seen my mother or aunt since. I know my mom has a happy family, a house, and she’s doing well.

I, on the other hand, ended up on the streets for two years. I went through drug addiction and struggled to find food. But over time, I pulled myself out of it, and that’s why I am who I am today. I have no regrets. I’ve already won at life.
