We all know it. December. The month when time seems to speed up about three times over. Youâre hunting for gifts, dealing with work deadlines, planning where to get the Christmas carp… and suddenly, a few days before Christmas Eve, you look in the mirror. Oh, crap.
Instead of a groomed gentleman, staring back at you is someone who could be an extra in a castaway movie. And worseâyour favorite barber has “FULL” next to their name in the booking system.
Let’s be honest about why December is the craziest yet most important month in the barber world, and how to ensure you look stylish by the tree (and at the office party).
Why worry about your “Christmas Cut” now?
You might be thinking: “It’s only the beginning of December, plenty of time.” But the math of Prague barbershops is unforgiving.
- Everyone wants to look good at the same time: Office parties, family visits, New Year’s Eve bashes. The concentration of events where you need to look presentable is extreme.
- Capacity isn’t inflatable: Even though our barbers go full throttle in December and often work overtime, the day still only has 24 hours.
- Christmas photos are forever: That photo by the tree, which Grandma will display on the mantel, will haunt you for years. Do you want to have an overgrown “mop” on your head, or a precision Fade?
3 Strategies to survive Christmas in style
To avoid panic and desperate phone calls on December 23rd, we have a few tips from the field for you:
- Book now, thank yourself later. This isn’t a marketing trick, it’s reality. The most lucrative slots (afternoons after work and weekends just before Christmas) disappear like cookies from the table. If you see an open window in our system, take it.
- Can’t fit in the Full Service? Play it safe. If the slots for hour-long rituals are already full, try a compromise. Sometimes just a Beard trim and cleaning up the contours is enough to transform you. It takes less time, it’s easier to find a slot, and the “groomed man” effect is instant.
- Plan B: Dates “between the holidays” Didn’t get in the chair before Christmas Eve? Don’t despair. The period between the holidays and New Year’s Eve is a great opportunity for a “New Year, New Me” cut. Step into 2025 with a fresh look. You’ll be the star of New Year’s Eve.
Barber’s Tip: Don’t leave your cut for the day of your office party. Ideally, come to see us 1â2 days before the event. The cut needs to “settle” so you look completely natural.
What’s trending this winter?
Winter in Prague demands its own approach. While summer was all about Buzz cuts, in winter, men often leave their hair and beard a little longer (it keeps you warm, after all).
- Textured Crop: Longer fringe, texture on top, clean sides. Ideal under a beanie â just run your hand through it and the style holds.
- Full Beard: Winter is the time for beardsmen. Grow a full beard, but don’t forget the oil and balm so the skin underneath doesn’t suffer in the freezing cold.
